Facilitation is the process of enabling groups to work cooperatively and effectively. Facilitation is an important part of everyday working life and is a vital management skill.

  • lead your team in action-planning sessions;
  • influence a group to adopt changes in work processes;
  • conduct a focus group session;
  • manage an ideas or brain-storming session; or
  • intervene in order to resolve a group issue?

Session Two: Influencing and Facilitation Skills

  • Listening and questioning skills  
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • The Heron Model of Facilitation
  • Group practice exercise

Session Three: Unlocking Group Talent

  • Ice-breakers and energizers
  • Brain stretchers
  • Working in the catalytic style – quality improvement and strategic planning tools and models
  • Action planning
  • Practice exercises

Session Four: Identifying Group Facilitation Challenges

  • Group preparation for Day 2 individual facilitated sessions
DAY 2
Session 1: Group Session Management Tips
  • Learning review of Day 1
  • Handling conflict situations within a group
  • Group conflict management exercise

Session 2: Putting it all into Practice

  • Participants conduct a thirty-minute facilitated session on an issue/topic of their choice
  • Each presentation is followed by tutor-led and peer feedback

Session Three: Action Planning

  • Participants identify facilitation challenges, set facilitation goals and develop an action plan
  • Programme evaluation
  • Wrap-up
