Course Aims:
This one-day intensive training workshop is aimed at those who wish to generate positive publicity and awareness for their organisation or business. The course focuses on the development and implementation of a media and public relations strategy to achieve your communication goals. It is not necessary to spend large amounts of money to be successful and this course shows you how to use your resources wisely.

Course Outline:
Positioning. Where are you now, what do people know about you and what do you need them to know. We seek to answer the fundamental question of why would someone want to do business with you, who are they, where do they get their messages, what do you need to tell them and how do you do it.

Developing Your Business Messages. To be effective in a congested media and publicity environment you need to have clearly defined, inclusive, simple ways to describe what you do and why it is of value to others. During the course we will develop your messages with you and arm you with the tools to communicate with your relevant audiences.

Examining the Options. In this section of the course we look at the increasing number of publicity options available today and how to make them work for you. There are specific approaches required for each communications option you choose ( Website, Direct Mail, Brochures, Email, Advertising etc) and we provide you with simple guidelines to ensure you choose those right for you and understand how to use them.

Making It Easy for the Media to Give You the Publicity You Want. Properly understood and managed, a planned media strategy should be a central part of any business awareness campaign. We help you to identify the media that are relevant to you, show you how to develop a professional relationship with them and give you the skills to provide them with the information they require in a professional and relevant way. Following this course you will u nderstand how to assess media opportunities to ensure you avoid potential problems while developing and maintaining a positive and relevant relationship. The media can be an asset if you understand what they need and how to provide it. Learn the simple rules required to protect yourself from negative publicity or deal with the consequences should it arise.

Presentation and Interview Skills. The ability to present effectively is central to any business communications strategy. We look at how you can give your presentations impact and avoid common errors. You usually only have a few minutes to influence your audience and this course will show you how to prepare, the structure needed to for success, how to get the audiences attention and close strongly.

We will help you to develop your interview skills to ensure you can professionally deal with press, radio and television opportunities as well as customer queries.. Each area requires a slightly different approach based on certain core rules. This course ensures you understand what is required and how to provide it.

Writing Communications Material that Works. This course will give you a deeper understanding of how to write business related material to ensure it is interesting and easily understood . You will learn how to draft press releases that will be noticed and increase your chances of getting that all important press release published.

Major Incident Management. Where required the course also covers the essential media guidelines for managing a major incident, how to plan and prepare, the crucial logistics, preparing statements and preparing spokespersons for interview. The central focus is on how to ensure your side of the story is heard and reported.
