Course Aims:
A practical one-day seminar on the approach, style and techniques required to write press releases that will be noticed. Increase the chances of your release being used by learning the key rules that apply and how to write effectively for different media.

This course will teach you to:

  • Understand the structure of a press release and have clear guidelines to work from. Develop writing skills to get your press release noticed, learn the difference between press release writing and journalistic writing, the impact of style and word usage
  • Plan your media strategy to ensure you get into print. Learn what different media want and how to provide it, how to target specific publications, how customising your approach yields much better results
  • Undergo a From The Horse's Mouth Session- a leading journalist's perspective. Learn how to be a media asset rather than an irritant, make it easy for journalists to use your press release, follow up protocol once your release has been sent, best ways and times to talk to journalists, why most press releases are not used and the characteristics of those that are
  • Undergo a practical session: You will be required to draft a press release to be used and analysed. Analysis of selection of press releases, simple ways to improve a press release, clear guidelines to ensure that both your client and the media are happy. The difference between a statement and a release. Negative press release writing. How the experts write a release under pressure
